Sports have become a way of life for most people and an occupation for some. The exhilaration of participating in sporting competition is addictive. We endeavour to push our bodies to the limit, no matter what level of sports we undertake.

Endurance and contact sports do not belong to the professional athletes and people of all ages, from all walks of life and with varying degrees of disability participate nowadays. Extreme sports are getting more extreme all the time.

Therefore, sporting injuries are common and vary from minor toe injuries to major complex trauma.

Sports people sustaining injuries hope to return to their previous level of sports participation. They therefore need high quality care, as quickly as possible, from trained medical professionals who understand their demands and requirements and are able to provide the treatment to return them to their sport as quickly as possible.

The basic injury patterns in many types of athletes and sports activities have been surveyed, but many activities, particularly in specific populations, have not been systematically studied. Many of the basic patterns of sports injuries seem to follow from the nature of the activities and the environment in which they occur, but many features of sports injury occurrence, particularly among gradual-onset or recurrent injury, have been largely unexplored.

In this section, we will cover common injuries related to specific sports. If your sport is not represented or you have specific comments or queries related to this section please email us.
